Goen Yuin is a premier hot spring facility located in the Mount Daisen (Daisen) area of Tottori Prefecture. Nestled within the rich, untamed nature of the mountain, the facility offers access to a precious spring water source drawn from 1,200 meters underground. This water is affectionately known as 'Kami no Yu' (God's Hot Spring) due to its high reduction potential, a quality highly valued for its restorative properties. It is a beloved destination for travelers seeking to refresh themselves after a day of hiking or mountain climbing.
The history of Mount Daisen is profound, with its name appearing in the 'Izumo no Kuni Fudoki,' a historical record from the Nara period. Since ancient times, the mountain has been revered as 'Ogami-dake' or 'Hinokamigake'—the 'Mountain where Gods Dwell.' It holds a central role in the 'Kunibiki' myth of Izumo and has long been a site of spiritual worship. The region has a rich history of religious devotion, and Goen Yuin operates at the foot of this sacred mountain, allowing guests to feel a deep connection between nature and history.
The greatest draw is undoubtedly the quality of the spring water. The hot spring, emerging from 1,200m deep, is colorless, odorless, and possesses high reducing power. The surrounding scenery is equally spectacular; the open-air baths (rotenburo) offer breathtaking views of the lush greenery, allowing you to feel completely at one with the environment. Soaking in the water while surrounded by such tranquility is a perfect way to calm both mind and body.
While enjoyable year-round, the facility is particularly recommended during the hiking seasons when the natural scenery is most vibrant. During the summer months (June to August), you can enjoy the refreshing mountain breeze and the most vigorous greenery. Depending on the season, operating hours may be extended, or special events may be held to coincide with the mountain opening. We recommend visiting during the bright daylight hours to enjoy the views, or during the evening for a more silent, meditative relaxation.
Beyond the hot spring experience, guests can also enjoy dining at the facility's on-site restaurant, which serves dishes that celebrate the bountiful ingredients of the Mount Daisen area. Pairing a soak in the hot spring with a warm, delicious meal creates a truly fulfilling stay. It is an ideal way to combine an active day of mountain exploration with deep relaxation and wellness.
Goen Yuin is easily accessible from the Daisen-ji Temple area. With various hiking trails and climbing routes nearby, you can easily plan an ideal itinerary: spend your morning exploring the natural wonders of the mountain and your afternoon melting your fatigue away in the hot springs. The area is an excellent base for driving tours and nature enthusiasts.
Please bring a clean towel and a change of clothes for your visit. To preserve the natural environment, please follow all facility rules.
