Yokohama Cosmo World is a unique, multi-level urban amusement park situated in the Minato Mirai district of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. One of its most distinctive features is the free admission policy; there is no entrance fee to enter the park, and visitors simply pay for each individual attraction they wish to use. This provides great flexibility, allowing you to stroll through the park and choose only the rides that interest you. The park is divided into three main areas: the 'Wonder Amuse Zone,' 'Bravo Street Zone,' and 'Kids Carnival Zone,' making it a perfect destination for families, couples, and groups of friends alike.
The origins of this facility date back to the 'Cosmo World Children's Republic' exhibit at the 1989 Yokohama Expo. Following the conclusion of the Expo, the decision was made to preserve the iconic 'Cosmo Clock 21' Ferris wheel, which led to the development of the park in its current form. Originally operating only within the Minato Mirai 23 block, the area was later expanded across the canal to the Shinko district (Block 15). Having grown alongside the development of Yokohama, this amusement park serves not just as an entertainment facility, but as a vital landmark of the city's skyline.
The crown jewel of the park is the 'Cosmo Clock 21,' a massive Ferris wheel standing 112.5 meters tall. It is famous for being one of the world's largest Ferris wheels with a functional clock, and at night, it features a spectacular light show that looks like scattered jewels. Every gondola is equipped with air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable ride regardless of the season. For thrill-seekers, the park offers high-intensity attractions such as the 'Banish!' diving coaster and various spinning coasters. Additionally, seasonal limited-edition menus and charming photo spots offer wonderful ways to create lasting memories.
During the daytime, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Yokohama cityscape and the surrounding ocean. A clear, sunny day is highly recommended for the best views. However, the evening is when the park truly shines; the romantic scenery created by the illuminated Ferris wheel and the surrounding city lights is a must-see. Please note that during weekends or busy periods, the boarding process for the Ferris wheel may close 15 minutes before the official closing time, so it is wise to plan your visit accordingly.
Beyond the rides, the 'Cosmo Court' area offers a variety of delicious street foods, including hot dogs, crepes, and ice cream. Enjoying tasty snacks while walking around the park adds to the lively atmosphere. You can also enjoy various forms of entertainment, such as shopping at the park's boutiques, visiting the portrait artist, or taking commemorative photos at dedicated photo corners.
The amusement park is adjacent to several major tourist spots in the Minato Mirai district. With easy access to Nippon Maru Memorial Park and nearby commercial shopping malls, you can easily enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Yokohama. A stroll along the canal is also a quintessential way to enjoy this scenic area.
