Cosmo Tower (Osaka Prefectural Sakishima Government Building) is a super tall, mixed-use skyscraper standing 256m high, located in Sakishima, Suminoe-ku, Osaka. The highlight is the observation deck on the 55th floor, situated at an altitude of 252m, offering an unobstructed 360-degree panoramic view. Originally constructed as the 'Osaka World Trade Center Building' under the 1988 'Technoport Osaka' plan, the building was completed in 1995. It was later transferred to the Osaka Prefectural Government, becoming the current Sakishima Government Building. This complex building, which blends administrative functions with commercial facilities, is a vital piece of architecture in the development of the Osaka Bay Area. Representing the pinnacle of architectural technology, it is a beloved symbol of Osaka's urban landscape.
The greatest attraction is the overwhelming view from 252m above the ground. From the 55th-floor observation space, you can look out over Osaka city, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the city of Kobe, and even Kansai International Airport and Awaji Island. The journey up is part of the experience, as you can enjoy the view through the see-through elevators from the 1st to the 52nd floor. At night, the landscape transforms into a brilliant display of light, featuring the illuminated Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and the sparkling lights of Kobe and Osaka.
While enjoyable year-round, the view is exceptionally clear during seasons with low humidity. The most recommended time is the 'magic hour' around sunset. Watching the sky change colors from a vibrant sunset to the gradual emergence of city lights is a truly beautiful experience. Visiting at night is also a classic choice to witness the spectacular illumination of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and the glittering Kobe skyline.
The observatory offers a sense of openness unique to high-rise buildings. A cafe is located on the 55th floor, allowing you to relax while enjoying the view. Additionally, special events are sometimes held, such as special ticket sales for viewing the first sunrise of the year or programs synchronized with drones or fireworks. The Sakishima area where Cosmo Tower is located is part of the Osaka Bay Area, adjacent to large-scale facilities like Intex Osaka and ATC (Osaka Derby World Trade Center). As an open, seaside area, you can enjoy a stroll around the bay between sightseeing stops. While it is a bit further from central Osaka (Umeda or Namba), it is a perfect destination to combine with other Bay Area attractions.
