Clematis no Oka is a cultural complex nestled on the slopes of Mt. Ashitaka in Nagaizumi, Shizuoka Prefecture. This facility is composed of several distinct areas: a museum dedicated to the works of the French painter Bernard Buffet, a literature museum celebrating the works of the renowned Japanese author Yasushi Inoue, as well as various cafes and shops. The site offers a harmonious blend of art and nature, providing a tranquil space for cultural exploration.
The facility's history began in November 1973 with the opening of the Bernard Buffet Museum and the Yasushi Inoue Literature Museum. The Bernard Buffet Museum showcases a collection of works by the French painter curated by Kiichiro Okano, with an additional wing added in 1988 and a print gallery added in 1996. The Yasushi Inoue Literature Museum honors the legacy of the famous novelist. For many years, this site has served as a vital hub for the promotion of art and literature within the local community.

The experience at Clematis no Oka changes beautifully depending on the season and time of day. The museums offer a quiet, contemplative environment ideal for deep art appreciation. Please note that the former 'Clematis Garden' area closed at the end of September 2023; currently, the main attractions are the museums and the various cafes within the facility.
