Cape Chikyu (Chikyu Misaki) is a breathtaking scenic spot located in Muroran, Hokkaido. The landscape is characterized by a continuous line of dramatic cliffs rising approximately 100 meters above the sea. From the observation deck, visitors can enjoy an unobstructed, panoramic view of the vast Pacific Ocean. The site is so significant that it was ranked #1 in the 'Top 100 Natural Sceneries of Hokkaido.' The name is said to be derived from the Ainu word 'Chikep,' meaning cliff.
The area is home to the Chikiu Misaki Lighthouse, which began its operation on April 1, 1920. Situated atop a cliff 130 meters above sea level, the lighthouse has long served as a vital beacon for maritime safety. The region is also a protected habitat for peregrine falcons, showcasing its well-preserved natural environment. It is a symbolic location for the region, often drawing crowds of visitors who gather to witness the first sunrise of the New Year.
The primary attraction is the panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean from the observation deck. On clear days, the boundary between the endless horizon and the sky is strikingly sharp. Muroran is home to several other famous sites known as the 'Eight Views of Muroran.' These include the Shiratori Bridge, the famous night views of Muroran Port, and the unique geological formations of Tokkarisho. These locations can be easily reached by car or public transportation from the Cape area.

■ Accessibility: While the paths to the observation deck are maintained, some areas near the cliff edges have uneven terrain and steps.
■ Etiquette: To protect the natural environment, please take all trash home with you and do not pick any plants.
