Ceramic Park Mino is a multi-purpose complex located in the eastern hills of Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, designed to foster the fusion of industry and culture. The facility consists of a museum, event halls, international conference rooms, and the Cascade Plaza, serving as a central hub for cultural promotion in Tajimi. A standout feature is the museum's exhibition rooms, which utilize the world's first 'Parallel Pendulum Seismic Isolation System.' Ceramic Park Mino was established to bridge the gap between these local industries and modern culture. The facility houses the Gifu Prefectural Museum of Contemporary Ceramics, which plays a vital role in showcasing the evolution of ceramic techniques and the development of modern pottery. Each area within the facility offers a unique experience. At the Gifu Prefectural Museum of Contemporary Ceramics, you can appreciate cutting-edge ceramic works within a building protected by advanced seismic isolation. The Cascade Plaza serves as the heart of the park, providing a spacious and open atmosphere for visitors. Additionally, the Museum Shop offers a curated selection of ceramics that reflect the local character of the region. The facility also includes international conference rooms and event halls, making it a venue for various global exhibitions and-large-scale events.
The facility is open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, allowing for evening visits. Depending on the season, you might encounter pottery festivals, flea markets, or the 'Ceramic Park Raku-Raku Market.' Notably, the fourth Sunday of every month and the preceding Saturday often feature community-rooted events that bring a lively atmosphere to the park. During the bright daylight hours, it is highly recommended to stroll through the Cascade Plaza and enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding landscape while exploring the various buildings.
Ceramic Park Mino offers hands-on pottery-making experiences where you can touch and shape real clay. These workshops are held only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, and a prior reservation is required. The experience sessions are divided into two slots: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience Japanese traditional culture directly through the tactile art of pottery.
The facility is situated in the hilly terrain of Tajimi, surrounded by various facilities related to ceramics and the local cultural landscape. Access by car is convenient, making it easy to combine a visit with other nearby sightseeing spots. It is located relatively close to the Toki-Minami Tajimi IC on the Tokai-Kanjo Expressway and the Tajimi IC on the Chuo Expressway, making it an easy addition to any regional sightseeing itinerary.
Because the facility is built according to the natural terrain, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. If you plan to participate in a pottery-making experience, please wear clothing that is easy to move in and that you do not mind getting dirty, as clay may get on your hands or clothes. Regarding payments, please check with individual shops or cafes regarding the acceptance of cash, credit cards, or IC cards. In the museum and exhibition rooms, please follow all rules regarding photography and etiquette to protect the artworks. Please note that the use of rental facilities (exhibition halls, conference rooms, etc.) requires advanced booking.
