Amaharashi Coast, located in Ota, Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, is designated as one of the scenic spots of the 'Oku Hosomichi Scenic Route.' It is renowned as an extremely rare location where visitors can simultaneously witness the beautiful coastline of Toyama Bay and the majestic, snow-capped Tateyama mountain range standing grandly in the background. The coastline is dotted with rock formations that evoke historical legends and breathtaking natural beauty. The scenery changes dramatically depending on the season, weather, and time of day. On clear days, the snow-capped peaks of the Tateyama range appear vividly against the blue sea, while sunrise and sunset paint the sky in rich, colorful gradients. The mysterious 'Kearashi' (sea mist/wind phenomenon) is another enchanting natural occurrence unique to this area.
The area is steeped in legend, specifically involving the legendary hero Minamoto no Yoshitsune. Near the coast lies the 'Yoshitsune Rock,' where it is said Yoshitsune took shelter from the rain alongside his retainer, Benkei. This historical narrative adds a profound layer of storytelling to the natural landscape. Furthermore, the JR Himi Line running along the coast is famous for its exceptionally beautiful views from the train windows, making it a beloved route for travelers and railway enthusiasts for generations. It is a culturally rich area where nature, history, and railway culture converge.

The greatest draw of Amaharashi Coast is the panoramic view of the Tateyama mountain range stretching across the sea. The contrast between the snow-capped mountains and the blue ocean is particularly striking from winter to spring. The JR Himi Line tracks running alongside the coast also provide a spectacular view for photographers and rail fans. Additionally, unique rock formations like 'Meiwa' (Female Rock) and 'Yoshitsune Rock' allow visitors to observe diverse geological features. The mysterious 'Kearashi' phenomenon, a misty atmospheric event near the sea surface, is also a highly sought-after sight.
The scenery changes significantly with the seasons: spring and summer offer lush greenery and vibrant blue seas, while autumn brings crisp air and vivid mountain views. The most recommended times are sunrise and sunset. An early morning sunrise can paint the sky in shades of pink and orange, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The changing light at dawn is one of the most distinctive features of this location. During stable weather periods, the silhouette of the Tateyama peaks is most clearly visible.

Main activities include observing natural formations, photography, and relaxing strolls. Visitors often enjoy walking along the coast, resting at the 'Michi-no-Eki Amaharashi' roadside station, or admiring the view from the JR Himi Line train. There are also specialized services like the 'Early Morning Scenic Taxi Plan' for those wishing to reach specific viewpoints at the perfect time. Spending time at a seaside cafe while listening to the waves is another delightful way to experience the area.
The area around Amaharashi Coast is rich with Toyama's unique food culture and other scenic spots. Along the Himi Line, many eateries serve incredibly fresh seafood. The location also offers easy access to central Takaoka, making it simple to visit historical streets and cultural facilities. It is an excellent driving route, allowing you to enjoy the ever-changing ocean views from the coastal roads.

As a coastal area, it can be quite windy. We recommend bringing a windproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes depending on the season.
