Red Brick Warehouse is a prominent cultural and commercial complex located in Naka Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Originally constructed by the Meiji government as customs warehouses for the Yokohama port, these historic structures have been revitalized into a hub for shopping, dining, and various seasonal events throughout the year. The complex consists of two main buildings: Building No. 2 was completed in 1911 (Meiji 44), and Building No. 1 in 1913 (Taisho 2). Having served as essential customs warehouses for the port for decades, the buildings completed their original roles in 1989 and were subsequently renovated into the current commercial and cultural facility in 2002. The site is officially recognized as a "Modernization Industrial Heritage" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Furthermore, Building No. 2 is designated as a "Yokohama City Certified Historical Building" and is included in the "100 Selected Buildings of Kanagawa," underscoring its immense value as a symbol of Japan's modernization.
The facility is divided into two primary sections: Building No. 1 and Building No. 2. Building No. 1 serves as a cultural space, hosting various exhibitions, halls, and special events. In contrast, Building No. 2 is a lively commercial area filled with boutiques, restaurants, and bars, offering a delightful shopping experience. Surrounding the buildings is the "Red Brick Park," a well-maintained open space where visitors can relax and enjoy the refreshing seaside atmosphere.
