Aichi Kodomo no Kuni is a massive recreational facility spanning approximately 1 million square meters in Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture. The park is designed to foster children's health and emotional growth through interaction with nature. The core philosophy centers on "dialogue between children and nature," "dialogue between children and other children," and "dialogue between children and parents." Unlike a standard amusement park, this is an environment where visitors can truly become one with the natural surroundings. Highlights include a real steam locomotive powered by coal and steam, go-karts, mini cars, and specialized corners for science-based crafts.
The facility was constructed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Aichi Prefectural Government. Opened on October 29, 1974, it has long served as a cornerstone for the growth of local children. Historically, the park has held significant importance for the region, having been visited by the then Crown Prince and Princess (the current Emperor and Empress of Japan). Today, it remains a beloved destination where families connect through learning and play in a natural setting.
The park is filled with features designed to spark curiosity. A standout attraction is the authentic steam locomotive that runs on coal and steam. At the Central Plaza, the multi-purpose hall often hosts science-themed events, such as making plastic bottle rockets or other scientific experiments. Other areas tailored to different ages include the 'Tsumiki Hiroba' (Block Square), which features 10,000 Hinoki wood blocks, and the 'Ehon Hiroba' (Picture Book Square) for quiet time. To navigate the vast grounds easily, the 'Land Train' provides convenient transportation throughout the park.
The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons. During the summer months (July and August), the greenery is at its most lush, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities. While you can enjoy outdoor rides and play equipment during the bright daylight hours, the park is extremely large; we recommend using the Land Train for easier movement. Visiting during specific seasonal events or science-themed workshops will provide an even deeper and more enriching experience.
Beyond physical play, the park offers intellectual exploration. Visitors can experience the sensory wonder of a real steam locomotive or engage in scientific discovery at the multi-purpose hall. The park also features areas for camping and BBQ, allowing for a full recreational experience surrounded by nature. These activities encourage children to develop independence and a sense of wonder through hands-on learning.
The area around Nishio City offers beautiful views of Mikawa Bay and a rich natural environment. Because Aichi Kodomo no Kuni is nestled within such a scenic landscape, visitors can enjoy a relaxing pace of life. The proximity to various parking facilities and seasonal attractions like ice rinks makes it easy to plan a complete day of leisure in the region.
Since the park is vast and set in a natural environment, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for movement. It is also important to bring hats to protect against the sun and prepare for changing weather. To ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all children, please be mindful of park etiquette and respect the surrounding nature.
