Aichi Expo Memorial Park, commonly known as Moricoro Park, is a vast natural park located in Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture. It was developed on the site of the 2005 International Expo, Aichi, Japan. The expansive grounds are dotted with forests featuring rich vegetation, playgrounds for families, and various experiential facilities. Many of the facilities focus on nature conservation and providing opportunities for people to interact with the environment, offering an experience that goes far beyond a standard park visit.
This park serves as the site of the 2005 International Expo (Expo 2005, Aichi, Japan). It continues to uphold the theme of "Nature's Wisdom" presented during the Expo. The facilities and vast green spaces used during the exhibition are now utilized as sites for environmental learning and nature observation, symbolizing Japan's commitment to environmental protection and sustainable coexistence with nature.
The park offers a variety of attractions to captivate every visitor. For instance, at the "Mori no Gakusha" (Forest School), you can join guided walks through the forest or participate in workshops using natural materials. There is also a "Fureai Zoo" where you can interact with animals, and observation decks to enjoy the scenery, ensuring entertainment for both children and adults. Additionally, active facilities like the ice skating rink provide plenty of seasonal enjoyment.
The park's character changes beautifully with the seasons. From spring to summer, the greenery deepens, and outdoor events and nature observation activities become very active. In autumn, the changing colors of the leaves make it a perfect time for strolls. In winter, you can enjoy activities at the ice skating rink. Operating hours are 8:00–19:00 from April to October, and 8:00–18:30 from November to March. Please note that many facilities are closed on Tuesdays, so it is essential to check the schedule before your visit.
Moricoro Park is packed with activities to engage your senses. At the Forest School, interpreters lead guided tours, allowing you to learn about the forest's ecosystem while walking. Craft workshops using natural elements are also available. Furthermore, seasonal programs such as ice skating and animal interaction events are held regularly, providing a hands-on way to experience the outdoors.
The area around the park includes various sightseeing spots in Nagakute and Nagoya cities. Within the park itself, you can enjoy matcha in a traditional atmosphere at the "Koryutei Tea House." The surrounding region is rich in nature, making it a wonderful area to explore via driving or cycling.
Because the park is extremely large, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please prepare clothing suitable for the season (sun protection for summer, warm layers for winter).
