ACAO FOREST is a premier resort park located in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Originally opened in 1988 as the "Soga Forest Nature Park," it evolved through several names, including the "Acao Herb & Rose Garden," before becoming the ACAO FOREST we know today. The park is highly prestigious, having received the "Excellent Garden Award" from the World Rose Convention. Visitors can wander through lush landscapes filled with fragrant herbs and roses, all set against a spectacular backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.
The facility's journey began in 1988 as the "Soga Forest Nature Park." In 1994, the herb gardens were developed, and by 1997, the facility expanded to include the "Atami Herb & Rose Garden" and the "Old Rose Garden." In 2002, it was renamed the "Acao Herb & Rose Garden." A significant milestone occurred in 2015 when the garden received the prestigious "Excellent Garden Award" at the World Rose Convention. In November 2021, following a change in the operating company, the facility was officially renamed to its current name, "ACAO FOREST."
The park features multiple themed gardens, with the rose gardens being the most renowned due to their international acclaim. A major highlight is the "COEDA HOUSE," which opened in 2017; this stylish facility allows visitors to enjoy coffee or snacks while soaking in the stunning coastal scenery. The park also hosts various seasonal events that transform the atmosphere. Key events include the "Atami Cherry Blossom & Rapeseed Flower Festival" (Jan–Mar), "ACAO ROSE FESTA" (Apr–Jun), "ACAO FOREST SUMMER" (Jul–Aug), "ACAO FOREST HALLOWEEN" (Sep–Oct), and "ACAO FOREST CHRISTMAS" (Nov–Dec).
Each season offers a unique experience at ACAO FOREST. In early spring (January to March), you can enjoy the Atami Cherry Blossom and Rapeseed Flower Festival. The peak beauty of the gardens occurs during the spring (April to June) with the ACAO ROSE FESTA. During the summer months (July to August), the park offers a refreshing summer atmosphere, while autumn (September to October) brings the festive Halloween theme. Finally, the winter season (November to December) is celebrated with the ACAO FOREST CHRISTMAS decorations, ensuring a beautiful view regardless of when you visit.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the sights and scents of various herbs and roses. Near the parking area, the "ACAO ROSE SQUARE" serves as a functional hub with a shop and restaurant, allowing guests to enjoy the resort-style environment. Whether you are looking for a peaceful walk or a scenic cafe experience, the park provides a perfect setting.
ACAO FOREST is conveniently located near Route 135 in Atami City. The surrounding area is a popular resort destination, featuring high-end facilities like the ACAO SPA & RESORT (formerly Hotel New Acao). The historic Soga Shrine is also located in the vicinity, making it a great area for cultural exploration.
As the park features various paths and some uneven terrain, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. For payments at shops and restaurants, please check on-site for accepted methods (cash and credit cards are generally used). While English signage and information may be available, please confirm specific details on-site. Generally, no advanced reservation is required for entry, except for specific seasonal events.
