"Workshop: Discover Folding Screen Structure & Nihonga Painting" is a special program held at the Hanatori Otsuka Museum. This workshop allows you to learn the structure of the traditional Japanese folding screen (Byobu) and the techniques of Nihonga (Japanese-style painting). It is part of the special exhibition "Tradition and Present: Hyogu (Mounting/Framing)."
The highlight of this event is the hands-on experience of traditional culture. Using an original kit, you will assemble a mini 4-panel folding screen, gaining a deep understanding of how these structures are built. After assembly, you will use authentic Nihonga tools and materials to paint summer motifs onto your screen. It is a luxurious way to spend time fostering creativity while touching the delicate expressions of Japanese art.
The event will take place on July 12. The scheduled time is 10:00–12:00.

This event requires advanced reservation on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes once capacity is reached. The session is led by instructor Yomogi Harada, an assistant professor at Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts, with technical support from Yoshiko Ushio. You will have the chance to use professional-grade Nihonga tools under expert guidance.
