The Takamiya Summer Fireworks Festival is celebrated as one of the earliest summer events in Shiga Prefecture. With a rich history dating back to the Meiji era, this traditional festival has been held for over 100 years. It is a beloved local tradition that signals the end of the rainy season and the true arrival of summer in the lakeside region.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The main highlight is the dynamic display utilizing the natural landscape of the Inukai River. Grand starmines launched from multiple points—including 3-point and 5-point setups—create an overwhelming scale of light and sound. The show features approximately 3,950 fireworks, including special variations like "Kawaribana 20" and mechanical fireworks, creating a mesmerizing art piece against the night sky. Experience this breathtaking light show right by the river.

Schedule

The event takes place on August 8th. The lighting ceremony begins at 19:30, with the grand finale expected around 20:30. Be sure to enjoy the full intensity and beauty of the continuous bursts within this limited time.

The venue is the riverbank near the upstream area of Muchin Bridge on the Inukai River. Access from the nearest stations is as follows:

• Approx. 10-minute walk from Takamiya Station (Omi Railway)
• Approx. 20-minute walk from Minami-Hikone Station (JR Line)
• Approx. 20-minute drive from Hikone Interchange via highway

Tips for Visitors

The riverbank provides a wonderful setting to enjoy the fireworks while feeling the natural atmosphere of the Inukai River. It is a perfect way to experience a traditional Japanese summer night. Please note that no parking lots are provided, so we highly recommend using public transportation.
