This is a regular Shakyo (sutra copying) program held at Ryotan-ji Temple in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Ryotan-ji is a significant site connected to the history of the Ii family and the famous female feudal lord of the Sengoku period, Ii Naotora (Jiro Hoshi). In this program, participants will carefully transcribe Buddhist scriptures in the quiet, peaceful environment of the temple's guest hall.
The essence of Shakyo lies in the process of distancing yourself from daily life and finding stillness by carefully writing each character. While feeling the historical architecture of Ryotan-ji and the legacy of the Ii family, you can focus your mind and find inner peace. Through this practice, you can experience the traditional etiquette of Japanese Buddhist culture and the profound meaning of writing sacred texts.
