Hours: 10:00 to 16:30 (Last admission at 16:00). Tours are conducted at the following intervals:

  • 10:00 / 11:00 / 12:00 / 13:30 / 14:30 / 15:30

Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes. To ensure a high-quality experience and protect cultural assets, capacity is limited to about 20 people per session. As spots fill up quickly, early arrival is recommended.

Venue & Access

The venue is Shokoku-ji Temple, located in Kita-ku, Kyoto. While the vast grounds are wheelchair accessible, please note there are slopes and stairs; an assistant is recommended.

Participation Details

To ensure a smooth experience, please note the following rules:

This event requires prior registration. On the day of the event, please write your name on the 'Application Form' placed in front of the main hall. The form is set up approximately one hour before each session. Please gather in front of the main hall 10 minutes before your scheduled time.

Groups of 7 or more people are not permitted, as we aim to maintain a quiet and contemplative atmosphere for small groups.

What to Bring, Dress Code & Etiquette

Please observe the following rules to protect the historical cultural assets:

  • *Socks (Mandatory)**: Entering buildings with bare feet (or without socks) is strictly prohibited. Please ensure you are wearing socks.
  • *Hand Luggage**: To protect the cultural assets, all hand luggage, including smartphones and tablets, must be handed in at the reception during the tour.
  • *Prohibited Items**: Large bags (such as suitcases) and pets are not allowed.
  • *Cash**: Payment for the viewing fee is primarily handled in cash. Please prepare the exact amount if possible.
  • *No Photography/Recording**: Photography, audio/video recording, note-taking, and sketching are strictly prohibited during the guided tour. Please keep your devices stored in your bag.
  • *Language Support**: The guide and interpretation services are provided in Japanese only. English translation services or the use of translation apps is restricted to protect the cultural assets.
  • *Maintain Silence**: Please remain quiet to respect the solemn atmosphere of the Zen temple.
