The Sadowara Summer Festival is a major summer event held around Sadowara Town in Miyazaki City. It takes place over two days in conjunction with the Atago Shrine summer festivities. The highlight of this festival is the 'Danjiri' (large decorated floats/lantern-bearing floats). The energy of the festival spreads through areas like the Ueda-jima Honmachi Street, which becomes a pedestrian-only zone.
The biggest highlight is undoubtedly the presence of the 'Danjiri.' These magnificent floats possess an overwhelming power that captivates all onlookers. The sight of the community coming together on the pedestrianized Ueda-jima Honmachi Street perfectly captures the essence of a traditional Japanese summer.

The main area is around Ueda-jima Honmachi Street in Sadowara Town, Miyazaki City. During the festival, surrounding roads will be pedestrianized with traffic restrictions in place. Please use public transportation or walk from the nearest station to reach the venue.
The central area becomes very crowded due to the pedestrian-only zones. To see the Danjiri up close, it is important to secure a spot early and prepare for crowds. Additionally, you can enjoy local flavors, such as the famous 'Kujira Yokan' (sweet bean jelly) from long-standing local shops, during your visit.
Many food stalls and local shops primarily accept cash. Please prepare small change or 1,000 yen bills for smooth transactions.
English support from festival staff may be limited. Since most communication is in Japanese, having a translation app ready is highly recommended.

As this is a summer event, heat countermeasures are essential. Please wear breathable clothing and bring a hat and plenty of drinks for hydration. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for navigating through crowds.
