Reisai (Annual Festival)

Event Overview

Located in Higashiyama, Kyoto, Yasui Konpiragu will hold its 'Reisai' (Annual Festival) on October 10, 2026. This shrine is highly renowned for its ability to 'break bad ties and bring good ones.' Founded by Fujiwara no Kamatari during the reign of Emperor Tenji, the shrine also has deep historical ties to Emperor Sutoku, who was known for his love of purple wisteria.

This festival is a significant milestone for the shrine. The grounds feature a massive 'En-kiri En-musubi' stone (approximately 1.5m high and 3m wide), where many visitors pass through a hole to make their wishes. This event offers a special time to pray for your destiny during this seasonal milestone.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The greatest attraction is the experience with the 'En-kiri En-musubi' stone. The stone features a large central crack through which divine power is said to flow. Beyond just sightseeing, you can engage in a deeper ritualistic experience using a 'Katashiro' (a paper charm/substitute).

First, after praying at the main hall, take a 'Katashiro' with your wish written on it and pass through the hole from the front to the back to signify 'breaking bad ties.' Then, pass through from the back to the front to pray for 'bringing good ties.' Finally, attach the Katashiro to the stone to fulfill your wish. This sequence of actions is a deeply memorable and spiritual experience.

Participation Tips

You can perform the 'En-kiri En-musubi' ritual throughout the day. However, please be mindful of your surroundings during the festival. 'Katashiro' are available on the left side of the stone. To use one, a contribution of 100 yen or more must be placed in the offering box to complete your ritual.
