Nyotaigu Rei-sai is a significant ritual held at the historic Futarayama Shrine, located in the heart of Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture. Futarayama Shrine possesses an ancient history dating back to the reign of Emperor Sujin and has long been revered as the only prominent shrine in the prefecture. The shrine is situated on Usugamine, a sacred peak standing at approximately 130m.

This ritual is deeply intertwined with the history of Utsunomiya. Since the Heian and Kamakura periods, the area surrounding the shrine has flourished as a temple town. Today, it remains a vital spiritual center where people gather for major life milestones such as New Year celebrations and Shichi-Go-San.
