Event Overview

Kunimi Town in Fukushima Prefecture is a region with a rich history, once a site of intense battles during the Oshu campaign. To honor the many legends surrounding the hero Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the 'Yoshitsune Matsuri' is held on September 23rd, coinciding with 'Kunimi Day.' This event is a vital tradition that symbolizes the local historical heritage.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The main highlight is the 'Yoshitsune Kogyo' procession. Watch as performers dressed as Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Shizuka Gozen parade through the town, offering an immersive experience that feels like stepping back in time. Pay close attention to the elegance of their costumes and traditional movements.

Additionally, the area around the venue becomes incredibly lively with over 60 food stalls. You can experience the local food culture and enjoy a variety of regional specialties amidst the energetic festival atmosphere.

Venue & Access

The venue is the Fujita Shotengai Special Event Area.

• *By Train**: Approximately a 10-minute walk from JR Fujita Station.
• *By Car**: Very easy access, about 5 minutes from the 'Kunimi IC' on the Tohoku Expressway.

Parking is available at the following locations during the event:

• Kunimi Town Hall (150 spaces)
• Kosei Fujita General Hospital (200 spaces)
• Mangetsu-dai Cultural Center (200 spaces)
• Kunimi Elementary School (110 spaces)

Tips for Visitors

To ensure a smooth viewing experience, we recommend checking the starting point and route of the procession in advance. As many stalls will be present, please be mindful of others and avoid obstructing the procession. Walking through the very sites where historical legends unfolded will surely deepen your experience.

As this is an outdoor event, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please note the following:
