Kunimi Town in Fukushima Prefecture is a region with a rich history, once a site of intense battles during the Oshu campaign. To honor the many legends surrounding the hero Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the 'Yoshitsune Matsuri' is held on September 23rd, coinciding with 'Kunimi Day.' This event is a vital tradition that symbolizes the local historical heritage.
The main highlight is the 'Yoshitsune Kogyo' procession. Watch as performers dressed as Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Shizuka Gozen parade through the town, offering an immersive experience that feels like stepping back in time. Pay close attention to the elegance of their costumes and traditional movements.
Additionally, the area around the venue becomes incredibly lively with over 60 food stalls. You can experience the local food culture and enjoy a variety of regional specialties amidst the energetic festival atmosphere.
