Located in Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, the Kaikoku Kinenkan Museum is a precious facility dedicated to the history of Japan's opening to the world. Please note that the museum will be closed from December 25, 2026, to December 31, 2026. During this period, entry to the facility and viewing of exhibits will not be possible. Please adjust your sightseeing route around Hikone Castle accordingly.
This area is famous for its historical landscapes, centered around the National Treasure, Hikone Castle. Even while the Kaikoku Kinenkan Museum is closed, you can enjoy an immersive experience at the adjacent Hikone Castle and Genkyu-en Garden using the latest MR (Mixed Reality) audio guide, "Auris." By using the app on your smartphone, you can experience the story of the Edo-period feudal lord Ii Naotaka within a realistic historical setting.
