The Hagi Matsuri is a seasonal event held at Kosho-ji Temple in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, to celebrate the blooming of bush clover (hagi). Kosho-ji is a temple of the Ji-shu sect, founded by the monk Ichijin. While the inner sanctuary of the main deity, Amida Nyorai, is generally closed to the public, the temple is famous as a sacred site for bush clover. In late September, the landscape is transformed by vibrant red and white bush clover flowers blooming along the earthen walls.
The main attraction is the sight of red and white bush clover in full bloom along the temple's perimeter walls. This seasonal scenery offers a unique and poetic view of early autumn in Kyoto, allowing visitors to enjoy the delicate colors of the flowers within the serene atmosphere of a historic temple.
