Yukake Matsuri Festival
6 min di letturaEvent Overview
The Yukake Matsuri is a traditional festival symbolizing the historic hot spring culture of Yugawara. This ritual dates back to the Edo period, recreating the ceremony of offering hot spring water to noble families. During the event, approximately 60 tons of hot spring water are used, creating an incredibly energetic atmosphere where spectators and participants splash water toward the portable shrines (mikoshi). It is a unique experience of unity and heat.
Highlights & How to Enjoy
The main highlight is the 'Yukakaburi' (water splashing) along the 1.5km parade route. The grand staircase near the entrance of Manyo Park is a famous 'splash zone' where massive amounts of hot water pour down. Seeing both the bearers and the spectators drenched in hot spring water while laughing and cheering is a thrilling sight found only here. You can also enjoy various food stalls (yatai) alongside the powerful shrine parade.
