Event Overview

The Yatsushiro National Fireworks Competition is one of Western Japan's most prestigious pyrotechnic events, held in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture. This competition brings together Japan's top-tier pyrotechnicians to showcase their unparalleled craftsmanship. The spectacle features approximately 14,000 fireworks, including high-precision competitive displays, music-synchronized fireworks, and a cutting-edge drone show. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Kuma River, this event offers a breathtaking fusion of traditional artistry and modern technology.

The main attraction is the 'Competitive Fireworks' performed by elite masters from across the country. Each shell is a work of art, designed with extreme precision and beauty. Visitors can also enjoy 'Music Fireworks,' where the explosions are perfectly timed to a musical score, and a modern 'Drone Show' that blends light and movement. To enhance the experience, local food stalls and product markets are set up around the venue, allowing you to enjoy regional delicacies while soaking in the festive atmosphere.

Date and Schedule

The event is scheduled for October 17, 2026. In the event of light rain, the show will proceed as planned. However, if severe weather or rising river levels pose a risk to the launch site, the event will be postponed to November 7, 2026.

Venue and Access

The venue is the Yatsushiro City Kuma River Green Space (upstream of Shin-Hagiwara Bridge) in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto.

Road conditions and access:

• Shin-Hagiwara Bridge will be a pedestrian-only zone (no vehicle access) from 17:00 to approximately 21:15.
• The embankment road on the opposite side of the venue will be open for viewing from 9:00 to 22:00.

Participation Tips

There are two types of viewing areas: free areas and paid reserved seats. Free viewing areas are located downstream of the Shin-Hagiwara Bridge and along the embankment road on the opposite side of the river. For those seeking a more immersive and comfortable experience, we highly recommend purchasing a paid seat. Depending on the seat type, amenities may include chairs or a designated space with a blue tarp. Please check the details in advance to choose the viewing style that best suits you.

What to Bring and Etiquette

• *Clothing & Essentials**: As you will be outdoors for an extended period, we recommend bringing warm clothing for the evening and a leisure sheet (blue tarp) for sitting on the ground. Some paid seats include chairs, but if bringing your own, please be mindful of others.
• *Payment**: We recommend bringing cash, as many food stalls and local vendors primarily accept cash.
• *Reservations & Tickets**: Paid seats can be purchased in advance via Seven Ticket or Kkday. Tickets are required for elementary school students and above.
• *Etiquette**: The area becomes extremely crowded. Since the Shin-Hagiwara Bridge area becomes a pedestrian-only zone, please allow plenty of time for travel. Toilets and smoking areas are located throughout the venue.
