The Yachi Donga Festival is a significant ritual held at Yachi Hachiman-gu Shrine in Kahoku Town, Yamagata Prefecture. This historic shrine is said to have been established in 1091 by the legendary warrior Minamoto no Yoshiie, making it a site of great historical prestige and a symbol of local heritage.

Highlights

The main attraction is the dedication of the 'Hayashi-ya Bugaku,' a performance designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. This dance is one of the 'Four Great Bugaku Dances of Japan.' Its lineage traces back to the musicians of Shitenno-ji Temple in Osaka, and it is preserved through a strict master-to-disciple tradition. Watching this refined, sacred dance performed in a divine atmosphere is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
