The highlight is the magnificent 'Tanabata decorations' made of washi paper, which serve as a beautiful symbol of summer in Sendai. The greatest charm lies in the grand decorations suspended from the ceilings of the shopping arcades. These 'Seven Decorations' consist of items like paper strips, clothing, cranes, pouches, nets, and large streamers, each carrying a special wish. The festival is typically held over three days, with August 7th as the central date (usually from August 6th to August 8th). In some years, the Sendai Tanabata Fireworks Festival may also be held on the eve of the main event, August 5th. The festival always takes place in early August.
