The Satsuma Kuroshio 'Kibarankai' Makurazaki Port Festival is one of the largest summer festivals in the Minamisatsuma region, a tradition that began in August 1951. Held to pray for safe voyages, bountiful catches, and prosperous harvests, this festival is a vital event symbolizing the maritime culture and history of Makurazaki. The absolute highlight of this festival is the '3-shaku tama' firework, which boasts an overwhelming scale rarely seen in Kyushu. The sight of 10,000 fireworks lighting up the sky is truly breathtaking.
During the festival, you can enjoy brass band performances, the powerful 'Hi no Kami Taiko' drumming, and the energetic 'So-odori' traditional dance.
