The Nagoya Festival is a major historical celebration held in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Originating in 1955 as the 'Nagoya Commerce and Industry Festival,' it honors the legendary figures who shaped the region's history while boosting local vitality. This massive event attracts over 2 million visitors annually.
The main highlight is the 'Heroic Procession.' Performers dressed as the three great unifiers of Japan—Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu—march magnificently from Nagoya Station toward Nagoya Castle. The sight of Nobunaga on horseback is particularly powerful. Don't miss the elegant appearances of the three ladies (Nōhime, Nene, and Senhime) accompanying them.
Additionally, you can enjoy live performances by local idols, creating a unique blend of traditional history and modern entertainment.
The festival is held on the Saturdays and Sundays of early October each year. Please note that the event may not be held during years when the Asian Para Games are hosted in the area.
The main parade route runs through the city center, from Nagoya Station to Nagoya Castle. As this is a large-scale event, expect significant traffic restrictions and crowds in the surrounding areas.
To get the best view of the heroic procession, it is essential to check the parade route in advance. A special benefit of the festival is that on the final day (Sunday), several facilities managed by the city, such as Nagoya Castle, offer free admission. We recommend using this opportunity to experience historical landmarks for free.
