The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival is one of Japan's most prestigious fireworks displays, held in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The absolute highlight is the 'Phoenix'—a massive, multi-layered display of shells that trace the shape of a mythical bird to the music of 'Jupiter,' designed to move the hearts of all who watch. You can also enjoy the 'Super Large Wide Star Mine,' where colorful bursts create a wall of light, and the 'Super Large Miracle Star Mine' with its stunning 3D effects. From the artistic 'Music Fireworks' to the symbolic 'Shikiku' white chrysanthemums, every moment blends advanced technology with a message of peace.
The main festival takes place over two nights: August 2nd and August 3rd. Since programs may vary slightly each night, we recommend checking the official website for the specific sequence. Additionally, on August 1st, a pre-festival event featuring lantern floating and parades is held to set the mood.
The main display takes place along the banks of the Shinano River. Because the area becomes extremely crowded, using public transportation is highly recommended. There are various seating options: the left bank (including chair, group, and mass seats) and the right bank (reserved, free, and spectator seats). Some premium 'Phoenix Viewing Seats' are also available near the Nagaoka station side.
To ensure the best experience, booking paid reserved seats in advance is essential. In recent years, most seats have become paid-only to manage crowds and ensure safety. Most tickets are sold via a pre-event lottery system, so please strictly follow the official sales schedule. Also, please allow extra time for your return journey, as the area around the station becomes extremely crowded after the show ends.
