Event Overview

The Nachi no Ogi Festival is the annual grand ritual of Kumano Nachi Taisha, a sacred tradition held since ancient times. Based on deep devotion to the Nachi Falls, the divine spirit is transferred from the upper shrine to twelve sacred fan-shaped mikoshi (portable shrines). The highlight is the powerful 'Nachi Fire Festival,' where massive torches purify the approach to the waterfall. It is a highly prestigious ritual expressing gratitude to nature and the gods.

Venue & Access

The event takes place around Kumano Nachi Taisha and Hiro-jinja (Nachi Falls).

By Car

Parking at the Nachi mountain area is limited. If the main parking is full (usually by 10:30), please use the temporary parking lots at the mid-mountain level (such as Daimon-zaka). A free shuttle bus will be available.

By Public Transport

Regular Kumano Gobo Nankai Buses are running. Please use the 'Nachi-san' bus stop.

This is a dynamic experience where nature and ritual become one. The afternoon 'Fire Ritual' with giant torches is the absolute highlight. Since the venue is in a mountainous area, please plan your schedule to account for travel and waiting times.
