Michinoku YOSKAI Matsuri is a YOSAKOI-style festival held in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Originating from the influence of Kochi's Yosakoi festival in 1997, it has grown into a major national event. Teams from all over Japan, from Hokkaido to Kansai, gather to perform, making it a symbol of autumn in Sendai. The festival creates an energetic atmosphere where music and dance merge across various urban venues.
The main attraction is the dynamic dance performances by teams from across the country. The sight of dancers moving rhythmically with Naruko clappers is breathtaking. During specific time slots, the "So-odori" (community dance) allows spectators to join in freely. You can experience a sense of unity with the crowd while dancing to songs like "Michinoku YOSKAI Odori" or "Yotchore."
The event is held on October 13.
Performances are held in several areas throughout Sendai city:
Spectators can enjoy watching the performances freely around each venue. The "So-odori" sessions are a great chance for the audience to join the dance. Move your body to the music and feel the local excitement firsthand.
