Matsushima Oyster Festival
7 min di letturaEvent Overview
The "Matsushima Oyster Festival" is a celebrated local gourmet event in Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture, dedicated to the region's most iconic winter delicacy: fresh oysters. Held annually on the first Sunday of February, the festival takes place around the Matsushima Kaigan Green Plaza. It is a perfect opportunity to enjoy seasonal oysters prepared in various ways. Additionally, the concurrent "Miyagi Marugoto Horoyoi Matsuri" allows visitors to enjoy a stroll through the town while sipping on premium local sake.
Highlights & How to Enjoy
The main attraction is the incredible variety of oyster preparations. From steamed and grilled to crispy fried, the diverse ways these oysters are served will delight even the most discerning food lovers. You can enjoy both shelled and shucked varieties, often prepared right before your eyes for a lively dining experience.
Beyond the food, the event features a special stage with cultural performances, including the traditional "Suzume Odori" dance and appearances by local artists. You might even find a free footbath (ashiyu) to warm up during the chilly winter day. Don't miss the chance to participate in the sake-themed stamp rally or purchase limited-edition goods like traditional sake cups and hand towels.
