The Kawaguchiko Winter Fireworks is a special seasonal event where the clarity of the winter night sky enhances the spectacle of fireworks dancing around Mount Fuji. Typically held on select weekends from January to February, the event takes advantage of the crisp, dry air which makes the colors and shapes of the fireworks appear exceptionally vivid. Witnessing the silhouette of the World Heritage site, Mt. Fuji, paired with a kaleidoscope of light, is a truly mesmerizing experience for all visitors.
The main draw is the breathtaking sight of fireworks launching against the backdrop of a snow-capped Mount Fuji. The combination of the dignified mountain silhouette and the vibrant bursts of light creates an artistic and majestic atmosphere.
On the calm surface of Lake Kawaguchiko, the light from the fireworks reflects beautifully, creating a 'mirror effect.' This phenomenon, where you can enjoy the display in both the sky and the water, offers a uniquely mystical experience.
Around the venue, various food trucks gather to serve hot beverages and local Japanese comfort foods. Enjoying hot wine, amazake (sweet rice drink), or warm local soups while braving the cold is a delightful way to experience the local culture.
The fireworks display lasts for approximately 20 minutes from 20:00 to 20:20.
The lakeside temperature drops significantly in winter. Please ensure you bring heavy coats, down jackets, gloves, scarves, and beanies. A leisure sheet (picnic blanket) and heat packs (kairo) are also highly recommended to stay warm while waiting.
