Event Overview

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Jigokudani (Hell Valley), the iconic symbol of Noboribetsu Onsen, the 'Jigokudani Oni-Hanabi' is a ritual performed to pray for happiness and ward off evil spirits. Watch as the legendary 'Yuki-jin' spirits hold massive hand-held fire canisters, launching explosive, volcano-like pillars of fire into the night sky. This is far more than a standard fireworks display; it is a high-energy, traditional performance filled with ancient ritual and intense heat.

The greatest thrill is the sheer proximity to the massive fire pillars and the thunderous roar that echoes through the rugged landscape of Hell Valley. Seeing 10-meter flames dance against the pitch-black sky is a truly awe-inspiring sight. After the performance, there is often a chance to take commemorative photos with the 'Yuki-jin' performers, creating a perfect souvenir for your trip. Since the venue is within walking distance from the hot spring town, you can fully immerse yourself in this special ritual while enjoying a cool evening stroll in a traditional Yukata.

Venue & Access

The venue is located around the Jigokudani Observation Deck in Noboribetsu Onsen.

• *By Car**: Approximately 10 minutes from the Noboribetsu-Higashi IC on the Do-O Expressway. While the Jigokudani parking lot (approx. 70 spaces, free) is available, it becomes extremely crowded. We highly recommend leaving your car at your accommodation and walking to the venue.
• *By Public Transport**: Approximately 15 minutes by bus from JR Noboretsu Station. Get off at the 'Noboribetsu Onsen Bus Terminal' and walk for about 10 minutes.

Tips for Visitors

The venue area is not very spacious and contains many steps and uneven surfaces. If you wish to sit and enjoy the view comfortably, we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before the start time to secure a spot. Additionally, food and drinks are prohibited at the venue, so it is best to finish your meal at a restaurant in the hot spring town beforehand.

What to Bring & Etiquette

• *Clothing**: Wearing a Yukata is perfect for a stroll through the hot spring town. However, since the viewing area has uneven steps, please consider wearing comfortable walking shoes.
• *Items to Bring**: Please refrain from bringing camping chairs or using umbrellas during the performance. If traveling with small children, a baby carrier is recommended to protect them from the loud noise.
• *Etiquette**: Eating, drinking, and smoking are prohibited at the venue. Drones are strictly prohibited. Please consult staff regarding the use of tripods. Pets (other than service dogs) are not allowed.
