The Sacho Hachiman Shrine Autumn Festival is a deeply rooted traditional autumn ritual in the Murozumi area of Hikari City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The festival features 10 elaborately decorated floats (dashi) and dynamic dancing floats (odai) that parade through the streets of Murozumi. It is a vibrant and powerful celebration that symbolizes the strong community spirit and local traditions of the region.
The main attraction is the breathtaking procession of the ornate floats. Watching these massive structures, adorned with gold decorations and beautiful lanterns, being pulled through the streets by people in traditional attire, is a truly spectacular sight. The energetic performances of the dancing floats further heighten the festive atmosphere. This is a rare opportunity to feel the raw energy and the beautiful traditions preserved in Japan's local communities.
The festival will be held on October 12, 2025. This traditional event typically takes place in early October each year.
The main venue is the Sacho Hachiman Shrine.
Since the floats parade through the town, we recommend watching from along the procession route. This allows you to feel the immense scale of the floats and the authentic atmosphere of the festival up close.
