Hanamatsuri (Nakasetra District) is a deeply historical folk performing art from Toei Town, Aichi Prefecture, with over 700 years of history. Designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, it reflects the essence of Japanese Shinto culture. This festival is a vital cultural heritage that brings ancient myths to life.
The main attraction is the unique dance based on Japanese mythology. The central figures, the 'Oni' (demons), are treated as sacred beings named after gods like Sarutahiko or Susanoo. You can visually experience the world of myth through dances like 'Iwato-biraki,' which recreates the story of the sun goddess hiding in a cave. Enjoy the powerful, mystical performances featuring exquisite masks and traditional costumes.
The festival is held annually from the first Saturday of December through the following day. The upcoming dates are December 6 and December 7.
