Fussa Tanabata Festival is a historic event held around the West Exit of Fussa Station in Tokyo. It began in 1951 to promote local businesses and has since become a beloved community tradition. While it was once held in August, it is now typically held in July. The entire town is decorated for Tanabata, offering a beautiful glimpse into traditional Japanese summer scenery.
The biggest highlight is the unique "wall decorations" (hekimen kazari) of Fussa. The colorful bamboo decorations adorning the shop walls are stunning and perfect for photography. You can also enjoy many food stalls (mogi-ten) set up by local citizens, creating a lively atmosphere. The area known as "Galaxy Street" is the heart of the festivities. The festival is further enriched by the sounds of the traditional Fussa Ondo dance, colorful parades, and historic contests.
