Event Overview

Chiryu Matsuri is a historic traditional festival centered around Chiryu Shrine in Chiryu City, Aichi Prefecture. With records dating back to the Edo period (1653), this festival is a cherished cultural treasure of the region. The main festival is held every other year, serving as a grand early-summer spectacle that beautifully blends magnificent floats with traditional performing arts.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The true highlight of this festival is the "Dashi Bunraku" and "Karakuri Ningyo Shibai" (mechanical puppet plays) performed atop the ornate floats. Watching the exquisitely crafted puppets move in perfect harmony with the music to tell a story is a masterclass in traditional Japanese artistry. The sight of these heavy, historic floats parading through the streets is truly awe-inspiring. We invite you to immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of the local community and the deep sense of history.
