Event Overview

Located in Katsura Town, Tokushima Prefecture, the "Big Hina Matsuri" is a special annual event held from February to March that symbolizes the local tradition and culture. Centered around the Doll Culture Exchange Center, the festival displays an immense collection of Hina dolls gathered from all over Japan. The absolute highlight is the colossal 7-meter-high pyramid-shaped display. Seeing more than 20,000 Hina dolls arranged in such a grand, orderly fashion is a truly overwhelming and powerful experience. Additionally, during the same period, the "Sakamoto Ohina-kaido" is held in the Sakamoto district of Katsura. This allows visitors to enjoy beautifully decorated dolls tucked away in various parts of the town's streets. By Public Transportation

• Take the Tokushima Bus (Katsura Line) from JR Tokushima Station. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach the vicinity of the venue. There are bus stops near the entrance.

By Car

• From the Naruto IC, follow Route 11, Route 55, and Tokushima Prefectural Route 16 (Tokushima Kamina-ga Line) for approximately 30km. Parking is available near the venue.

Tips for Visitors

At the Doll Culture Exchange Center, a fee of 5,000 JPY may be required as a memorial offering (Kuyo-ryo) for the Hina dolls on display. Since the surrounding Sakamoto district also offers many charming displays, we recommend planning a walking tour to enjoy the town's atmosphere alongside the main event.
