The Mount Adatara Trail is a hiking route located around the Adatara Kogen (Adatara Highlands) at the foot of Mount Adatara in Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. Known for its dairy farming heritage, the area features vast, beautiful pastures. This trail offers a chance to experience the changing beauty of nature through hiking and trekking.
The true charm of the trail lies in the encounters with its rich ecosystem. In the expansive pastures, you can see grazing cattle, and near the hiking paths toward the Mt. Adatara back-mountain trailhead or around Dake Onsen Shrine, you may even spot wild Japanese squirrels. These are precious experiences unique to this natural environment.
Nature's changing colors are another major draw. You can enjoy different scenery depending on when you visit: the soft colors of spring, the deep greens of summer, the vibrant foliage of autumn, and the serene, snowy landscapes of winter. It is a perfect place to refresh your mind and body.

The most common route is via the Nihonmats I.C. We also highly recommend the scenic drive route via the Motomiya I.C, which offers beautiful views of the Mount Adatara mountain range.
If traveling by Shinkansen, routes via Koriyama Station or Fukushima Station are available. Access from Fukushima Airport or Sendai Airport is also an option. For local movement, you can use Fukushima Kotsu buses or highway buses connecting major cities (advanced reservation required).
Preparation is key to enjoying the trail. Since temperature and weather can change significantly depending on the season, please prepare accordingly. For example, bringing gear suitable for autumn foliage or winter snowscapes will ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
