2026 Kamojima Awa Odori is a once-a-year traditional Awa Odori event held in the Chuo-dori shopping street in front of JR Kamojima Station, Yoshinogawa City, Tokushima. The festival takes place on August 16, 2026, from 18:00 to 21:30, set against the charming backdrop of the historic station area.
Featuring both local dance groups (Ren) and famous professional troupes, the event is characterized by the close proximity between dancers and spectators due to the compact shopping street setting. Numerous food stalls will line the streets, adding to the festive atmosphere and local culinary charm.
The main highlight is the powerful Awa Odori dance performances unfolding right within the streetscape. Unlike large-scale festivals held in wide plazas, this event takes place in a narrow shopping district, allowing you to experience the intricate movements, costumes, and the rhythmic sound of the instruments from a very close distance.
You can experience a variety of styles, from the community-rooted dances of local groups to the highly polished performances of famous troupes. Between dances, enjoy the local food culture at the many street stalls, creating a seamless blend of rhythm, light, and heat.
This is a one-day-only event held on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
As it is a limited-time event, it is recommended to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot.
