Morioka Tsuna-gi Onsen is a beautiful hot spring destination located on the banks of Lake Goshiko in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. The area is characterized by the harmonious scenery of the calm waters of the reservoir and the surrounding natural landscape. The spring water is a simple sulfur spring with a high alkalinity (pH 8.7 to 9.5) and a rich flow of 2,000 liters per minute. The area is deeply rooted in the local community, offering various accommodations, day-use facilities, and relaxation centers.
The history of this land dates back to the late Heian period. It is said that Minamoto no Yoshiie discovered the hot spring while setting up his camp during the Zenkunen War. The name "Tsuna-gi" (meaning to tie) comes from the "Tsunagi-ishi" (tying stone), a stone with a hole where his beloved horse was reportedly tied to rest during the campaign.
The hot spring town features the Onsen Shrine (Yakushi Shrine), which carries a deep sense of history, and holds an annual festival on September 8th. Visitors can also enjoy various free footbath (ashiyu) spots while admiring the scenery of Lake Goshiko. Notable spots include the "Yamaichi Te-yu" completed in 2007 and the "Nekoishi Ashiyu" in 2009, allowing travelers to easily experience the benefits of the hot spring during a stroll. Additionally, from May to November, the local "Ichi-no-Ichi" market is held on the 1st of every month, offering a chance to touch local culture.

Various sightseeing spots are located around Lake Goshiko. Nearby areas include Morioka Tezukuri Mura (Handicraft Village), Koiwai Farm, and the Goshiko Wide-area Park, making Tsuna-gi Onsen an excellent base for touring the wider Iwate region.
