Tamagushigawa Cherry Blossom Avenue is a renowned cherry blossom destination located along the banks of the Tamagushi River, which flows through the residential areas of eastern Yao City, Osaka. Approximately 700 Yoshino cherry trees stretch for about 5 kilometers, creating a magnificent landscape that follows the river's flow. The most striking feature is the formation of a "cherry blossom tunnel" where the trees lean in from both sides of the river, creating an immersive natural experience.
This beautiful avenue has been nurtured through the cooperation of the local community. Since around 1965, local residents have worked together to plant and continuously maintain the cherry trees. These efforts have resulted in the approximately 700 Yoshino cherry trees that stand today, serving as an iconic symbol of the local landscape and a source of pride for the community.
The greatest highlight is the continuous 5-kilometer stretch of Yoshino cherry blossoms. From the riverside promenade, you can gaze up at the canopy of blossoms that seem to cover the sky. Every year, from late March to mid-April, the area reaches its peak beauty, offering a serene view of the pale pink blossoms reflecting on the surface of the river.
The best time to visit is typically from late March to mid-April. The bright daylight hours during a warm spring day are the best time to witness the most vibrant colors of the blossoms. Please note that schedules for cherry blossom festivals or light-up events may vary each year, so it is highly recommended to check the latest information before your visit.
Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll along the riverside paths while admiring the breathtaking cherry blossom tunnel. The long, 5-kilometer path allows for a relaxing walk through nature, where you can feel the changing seasons through the scenery. It is a perfect way to experience the natural beauty of Osaka at a walking pace.
The site is conveniently located near Kintetsu Kawachi Yamamoto Station and Takayasu Station. Thanks to its excellent access via public transportation, you can easily combine your visit with exploring the surrounding residential and commercial areas of Yao.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes for your stroll, as the riverside paths follow natural terrain and may have uneven surfaces. While there are no entrance fees for the walk, it is useful to carry some cash if you plan to purchase food or drinks at nearby shops. Please be aware that English-language signage and support are limited in this area, so it is helpful to prepare any necessary information in advance.
