Takinomiya Park is a comprehensive natural park located in the hilly area of Mt. Kaneko in Niihama City, Ehime Prefecture. Since its establishment in 1956, it has been a beloved spot for local recreation and a place to connect with nature and animals. The park features the 'Takinomiya Grand Pond,' an agricultural reservoir, and the surrounding 0.85 km path is an ideal route for walking and jogging. The park's greatest charm lies in the diverse natural experiences it offers, from the seasonal beauty of plants to the tranquility of the Japanese garden and the joy of interacting with small animals.
The area around Mt. Kaneko holds significant historical importance. During the Tensho era (1573–1593), it is said to have been the site of the residence of Kaneko Bigen-no-kami Motohiro. Furthermore, the area carries the history of being a former battlefield during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Shikoku expedition. The peaceful natural scenery seen today is deeply intertwined with the history of the samurai, allowing visitors to enjoy a stroll while feeling the weight of the past.
The park offers a variety of facilities and landscapes that captivate visitors. Most notably, in spring, approximately 1,500 cherry trees (including Somei Yoshino, Yoko, and Yamazakura) bloom beautifully. Additionally, the renovated Japanese garden features about 80 red and white plum trees (such as Kanko-bai and Mikai-kou), allowing you to feel the subtle shifts in the seasons. Well-maintained paths surround the large pond, and visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the 1st and 2nd observation decks. For families, there are large playground areas with climbing structures and swings, as well as a small animal house where children can interact with various creatures.
Takinomiya Park reveals a different face with every season. From February to April, it is the peak season for plum and cherry blossoms, offering vibrant colors. During the spring cherry blossom season, the 'Hanami Plaza' near the western end of the pond becomes a lively center for experiencing traditional Japanese flower viewing culture. The bright daylight hours are perfect for using the playground and visiting the small animal house, while the evening is an ideal time to enjoy the sunset and scenery from the observation decks.
Whether you want to relax or stay active, the park offers many ways to enjoy nature. The playground area is equipped with large combination play structures and swings, making it a great destination for families with children. The small animal house provides a unique opportunity to see animals like guinea pigs up close. For those looking to stay healthy, the 0.85 km loop around the pond is a perfect walking course. The Japanese garden also includes amenities like gazebos and equipment for light physical activity.
Takinomiya Park is nestled in a natural area of Niihama City. Access by car is very convenient, with multiple parking lots (No. 1 through No. 4) available on-site.

Please note that if you need to pay for any specific facilities or services, it is best to carry cash, as cash is the primary method of payment. English-language signage and support are limited. Please respect the park rules: take your trash home with you, do not use open flames, and do not feed the animals. While the park has paths and parking, please be aware that some areas may have uneven surfaces or slopes.
