Tajimagahara (Sakurasou Park) is a vast 4.1-hectare grassland located on the Arakawa riverbed in Sakura Ward, Saitama City. The greatest allure of this site is its status as a habitat for the Primula sieboldii (Sakurasou), which is designated as a National Special Natural Monument. Because the natural ecosystem is strictly preserved, visitors can enjoy a truly precious landscape where delicate pink flowers dot the vast greenery during the spring season.
This area is much more than just a park; it is a protected sanctuary for rare flora and fauna. In addition to the Primula sieboldii, approximately 250 species of wild plants, such as the Japanese primrose, thrive here. The landscape has been preserved through long-standing natural conservation efforts, maintaining a cultural value that respects the natural cycle by keeping human intervention and artificial development to an absolute minimum.
The primary highlight is the blooming of the Primula sieboldii, which occurs from late March to late April. Rather than a dense, uniform carpet, the flowers appear scattered naturally across the meadow, a sight that is considered extremely rare and beautiful. The vast grassland offers a harmonious landscape that changes with the seasons, allowing visitors to observe different types of wild grasses and the shifting beauty of the natural environment.
The most recommended time to visit is from late March to late April, when the Primula sieboldii is in full bloom. During this period, the "Sakurasou Matsuri" (Primula Festival) is held in mid-April. The viewing paths are accessible from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. We recommend visiting during daylight hours to fully appreciate the vibrant pink hues of the flowers under the bright spring sunlight.
Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the well-maintained viewing paths to observe the natural ecosystem. However, because this is a protected National Special Natural Monument, entering any area outside the designated paths is strictly prohibited to protect the environment. It is a perfect place for a quiet, meditative walk where you can feel the vitality of nature.
Located on the Arakawa riverbed, Tajimagahara is surrounded by vast green spaces, including the nearby Akigase Park. It is easily accessible from the Urawa area in Saitama City, making it a wonderful destination for those who enjoy walking tours while feeling close to nature.
Strict adherence to conservation rules is required. Collecting plants or living organisms is strictly forbidden, and visitors must never step inside or climb on the fences. If you are using a camera tripod, please ensure it is used outside the fenced areas. As there are no shops within the park, please bring your own beverages; however, two vending machines are available on-site. Please dress in comfortable clothing suitable for walking in a natural environment.
