Sakura Toge is a renowned destination for Oyamazakura (mountain cherry blossoms), located at an altitude of approximately 800 meters in Kitashiobara Village, Fukushima Prefecture. With about 3,000 cherry trees planted across the area, the entire pass is transformed into a magnificent sea of pink during the spring. A unique characteristic of this location is the spectacular sight of cherry blossoms coexisting with the remaining snow from winter, creating a rare and breathtaking landscape that is highly photogenic.
This area has been carefully maintained as a premier cherry blossom viewing spot. Historically, the planting of these trees was part of local commemorative efforts to preserve the natural beauty of the region. Today, the thousands of Oyamazakura trees serve not only as a visual masterpiece but also play a vital role in preserving the local natural environment and the cultural tradition of celebrating the changing seasons.
The greatest attraction is the stunning color gradient created by the 3,000 Oyamazakura trees. The landscape shifts through various shades of light pink, deep pink, and white, enveloping your entire field of vision in a soft, floral embrace. Because of its high altitude, the view offers a dramatic contrast between the vibrant blossoms and the surrounding mountains and lingering snow. The peak season for cherry blossoms here is typically from mid-April to late April. While the exact timing depends on the weather and temperature, visiting during this window ensures you see the most spectacular blooms. We recommend visiting during the daytime when the bright sunlight makes the colors of the blossoms appear most vivid. If you visit during a cooler period, you may even witness the rare sight of cherry blossoms blooming alongside patches of white snow.

Sakura Toge is located near the popular sightseeing hub of the Urabandai area. It is easily accessible by car, approximately 40 minutes from the Aizu-Wakamatsu IC on the Ban-etsu Expressway. The surrounding area features various cafes, restaurants, accommodations, and roadside stations (Michi-no-Eki) where you can enjoy local flavors. Since roadside stations can become crowded during peak seasons, we recommend checking local dining information in advance.
It is highly recommended to carry cash, as you may need to pay small cooperation fees for parking or at local facilities. Please check with local vendors regarding the availability of credit cards or IC cards.
While some signs and facilities in the surrounding area may have English descriptions, most basic information and local services are primarily provided in Japanese.

Since the area is at an altitude of 800m, temperatures can be quite low even in spring. Please bring a warm jacket or layers that are easy to put on and take off. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for exploring the paths.
Photography is freely allowed, and it is a wonderful place for landscape photography. However, please be mindful of other visitors and avoid blocking paths while taking photos.
Due to the natural mountainous terrain, some areas may have uneven surfaces or slopes. Please check local conditions if traveling with strollers or wheelchairs.
