Sakaki Chikuma River Rose Park is a breathtaking destination dedicated to roses, located along the banks of the Chikuma River in Sakaki Town, Nagano Prefecture. The park is home to an immense collection of over 2,300 roses spanning 330 different varieties, making it a must-visit for both rose enthusiasts and casual tourists alike. Thanks to its prime location on the Chikuma River riverbed, visitors can enjoy a harmonious view where the vibrant colors of the roses blend perfectly with the flowing river, the vast sky, and the surrounding mountain scenery.
The park provides a space that exists in perfect harmony with the local natural environment through the careful cultivation of roses and the maintenance of its beautiful landscapes. Every year, the town hosts the "Rose Festival" around late May, coinciding with the peak blooming season. This event has become a significant local tradition, celebrating the cultural value of the region's diverse rose varieties and the natural beauty of the Chikuma River.

The greatest attraction is the overwhelming spectacle of roses in full bloom. With more than 330 varieties, the park presents a different facial expression depending on the season and time. The combination of the sweet, delicate scent of roses and the view of the gentle Chikuma River is a truly enchanting experience. During the peak season, the entire park is transformed into a colorful tapestry of blossoms, offering a visually stunning landscape that captures the heart of every visitor.
The peak season for roses is typically from late May to mid-June, during which the "Rose Festival" is held and the maximum number of varieties are in bloom. The park also offers a different, unique charm from late September to mid-October. For the best photographic opportunities, we recommend visiting during the early morning or late afternoon when the soft light enhances the colors of the roses and the river scenery.
During the "Rose Festival," visitors can often enjoy activities such as the sale of rose seedlings and local specialty products. In the past, the park has also hosted lectures by rose experts and workshops on how to cultivate roses. The spacious grounds are perfect for a relaxing stroll among the flowers. Additionally, during special event periods, you might find unique attractions like mini-zoos or local community events.
Located on the banks of the Chikuma River, the park is surrounded by rich, natural landscapes. It is relatively easy to access, being within walking distance from Techno Saki Station on the Shinano Railway. The entire area offers a peaceful atmosphere where you can enjoy the natural scenery characteristic of Nagano Prefecture.
Since the park covers a wide area, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Casual, relaxed clothing is ideal for a stroll through the fragrant gardens. Please note that a small cooperation fee (approximately 500 JPY) may be required when using the parking lot. When taking photographs, please enjoy the scenery while being mindful not to touch or damage the delicate plants and flowers.
