Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER (formerly known as Nagoya TV Tower) is a 180-meter radio tower located in Hisaya-odori Park, Naka-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Originally constructed as Japan's first integrated radio tower, it has long been a beloved landmark for both locals and tourists. In 2021, the tower was officially renamed to its current name, "Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER." Following a recent renovation, the observation deck now offers a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Nagoya cityscape, making it a must-visit destination.
This tower holds a significant place in Japanese history as the first integrated radio tower in the country. Since its opening in 1954, it has stood as a symbol of Nagoya's urban development. The structure is currently recognized as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, highlighting its immense historical and architectural value. With the introduction of naming rights in 2021, it transitioned to its current identity. Through continuous maintenance and modern upgrades, the tower has evolved into a contemporary landmark that meets the needs of modern travelers and sightseers.
The greatest attraction is the observation area located approximately 100 meters above the ground. From this vantage point, you can enjoy a sweeping view of the Nagoya cityscape that changes beautifully depending on the weather and time of day. The light-up displays, which typically run from sunset until around 22:00, are a major highlight, painting the night sky with vibrant colors and making the tower a centerpiece of the city's night scenery. The structural design itself is also an iconic piece of history, representing the evolution of radio towers in Japan.
The way you enjoy the tower changes depending on the time of day. During the bright daylight hours, it is perfect for observing the vast layout of the city and identifying various landmarks. However, the transition from dusk to night offers a more dramatic and romantic experience. The nighttime illumination is particularly spectacular, as the tower glows brilliantly against the dark sky, creating a beautiful silhouette over the city. Please note that on certain days, such as Saturdays, the operating hours may be extended until 21:40.
The primary experience is enjoying the panoramic views from the observation deck. You can feel the thrill of being high above the city while soaking in the 360-degree views. Additionally, the area surrounding the tower and its facilities often hosts seasonal events, including special light projections and themed displays. The renovated facility provides a fresh way to experience the classic charm of the tower alongside modern entertainment and sightseeing.
The tower is situated in the heart of Nagoya, specifically within Hisaya-odori Park. This area is surrounded by numerous shopping malls, restaurants, and cafes, making it an ideal spot to relax or enjoy a meal during your sightseeing tour. The location is highly accessible from major Nagoya stations, allowing you to easily incorporate a visit to the tower into your city walking tour.
