Nagasaki Bio Park, located in Saikai City, Nagasaki Prefecture, is a zoo and botanical garden that focuses heavily on direct interaction with animals. Spanning a vast 300,000 square meters, the park is home to a diverse range of creatures, including mammals like capybaras, llamas, hippos, and monkeys, as well as various insects and plants. Many areas are designed with low fences or minimal barriers, allowing visitors to observe the natural behaviors of the animals from a very close distance.
Since its opening in November 1980, the facility has been built on the theme of "Harmony between Humans and Nature." A significant milestone in its history was the successful artificial rearing of a hippo in 1994, the first of its kind in Japan. This achievement, involving the hippo named "Momo," has made the park famous among conservationists. The park's design aims to create a space where biological laws are respected and humans can coexist peacefully with the natural world.

The park is divided into 12 distinct zones, each showcasing different biological wonders:
Nagasaki Bio Park is open year-round from 10:00 to 17:00 (last entry at 16:00). While you can enjoy the animals in any season, the park includes wooded areas and natural terrain, so we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.

The defining feature of the park is the proximity to the animals. In many areas, you can participate in animal feeding (additional fees apply). You can interact with capybaras, squirrel monkeys, llamas, and more. It is also an excellent place to learn about biology through the displays of tropical plants and insects.
The park is surrounded by the beautiful, lush scenery of Saikai City. If you are driving, it is located approximately 20 minutes from the Saikai Bridge.

Because the park covers a large area with hills and natural terrain, comfortable walking shoes are essential. When feeding animals, please use only the designated food provided by the staff. Regarding payments, we recommend bringing cash, as there may be additional costs for animal feed or certain experiences. Please be mindful of animal safety and follow all posted rules.
