Tamanami Park is a beautiful urban park located in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, situated right next to the Nakaumi Sea. The park features a well-maintained seaside promenade where visitors can enjoy a refreshing stroll with a gentle sea breeze. It is widely known as one of the best spots to witness the breathtaking sunset over Nakaumi; as the sun dips toward the horizon, the water surface transforms into a dramatic display of deep reds and oranges. With its lush greenery, the park serves as a versatile space for jogging, picnics, and romantic dates, offering a peaceful escape for locals and travelers alike.
The area surrounding the park has a rich history as part of the Nakaumi coastline. Historically, the area was known as "Kinko Park." Through the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras, the park underwent various developments and expansions to become the scenic destination it is today. During the Taisho era, it became a renowned spot for cherry blossoms, with various weeping cherries, willows, and azaleas being planted to enhance its beauty. Additionally, the region has a history of rowing and boating on Nakaumi, contributing to its identity as a hub for community sports. Today, it remains a vital part of the local lifestyle, blending natural beauty with historical charm.

The greatest charm of Tamanami Park lies in its ever-changing seasonal landscapes. The most iconic season is spring, when approximately 500 Yoshino cherry trees bloom in full glory, making it one of the premier cherry blossom viewing spots in the Yonago area. The promenade lined with cherry trees is perfect for 'Hanami' (flower viewing). Another must-see is the sunset; the way the Nakaumi sea reflects the orange and crimson hues of the sky is truly unforgettable. At night during the spring festival, over 100 traditional lanterns (bonbori) are lit, casting a warm, nostalgic light over the park. The area also reflects local culture through events like the 'Gaina Festival' related activities in August.
Spring (March to April) is the highly recommended season when the entire park is bathed in soft pink hues. The 'Yonago Sakura Festival' in early April is particularly special, featuring beautiful light-up displays that create a different, more emotional atmosphere than the daytime. For the best experience, we recommend arriving about 30 minutes before sunset. Watching the sun sink into the Nakaumi horizon is a unique experience that defines this park. Summer visitors can also enjoy the evening atmosphere and various seasonal events.

There are many ways to enjoy the park. You can engage in light exercise like walking or jogging along the seaside path, or simply relax and enjoy a picnic in the spacious green areas. It is a wonderful place to spend quality time with family or friends while surrounded by nature. Whether you are looking for a quiet moment of relaxation or want to immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere of a local seasonal event, the park offers a variety of experiences.
The park is conveniently located near the urban center of Yonago City. It is within walking distance or a very short drive from JR Yonago Station, making it easily accessible for tourists. The surrounding area features various accommodations and dining options, serving as an excellent base for exploring the Tottori region. The local landscape still retains traces of the historical coastline, offering a sense of the area's geographical heritage.
