Karuizawa New Art Museum is a registered museum by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, established in 2012. The facility is characterized by its stunning modern architecture designed by Rikuo Seimori, featuring a glass-walled structure with white columns inspired by Japanese larch trees. The museum hosts unique exhibitions focusing on Japanese contemporary art. Beyond its exhibition functions, it serves as a multi-faceted cultural destination, offering a museum shop, bookstore, cafe, restaurant, and a breathtaking chapel designed by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma.
Born in 2012 as a modern structure that harmonizes with the natural beauty of Karuizawa, the museum has consistently focused on the avant-garde and contemporary art scenes in Japan. It has built deep connections with both domestic and international artists, such as through collaborations with Jean-Michel Othoniel and highlighting movements like the Gutai group. It is more than just a gallery; it is a cultural hub where architecture, art, and nature coexist seamlessly.

Seimori's design, with its orderly rows of white columns and open-air feel, provides a refreshing atmosphere typical of Karuizawa. In the garden, you will find the glass chapel "Wind-Passing White Cypress and Moss Forest" designed by Kengo Kuma. The exhibition space spans approximately 1,000 m², hosting a variety of shows ranging from Japanese contemporary masterpieces to new global art movements and unique installations, such as the works by Shuji Mukai.
